Small Business Development Center
The Small Business Development Center offers practical counseling geared to your specific needs. Counseling is provided by experienced business advisors through FREE and confidential in-depth counseling and training for start-up, existing, and home-based businesses.
Counseling is available on business plans, loan requirements, start-up steps, cash flow projections, recordkeeping, marketing, requirements for hiring employees, government procurement, and the application process for women/minority-owned business certification. The Research Network can provide demographics, industry trends, statistical data, trade associations and suppliers.
An objective, fresh perspective is provided to entrepreneurs in Chemung, Schuyler and Steuben counties at any stage of business development by appointment, e-mail or phone. In addition to the Corning office at 24 Denison Parkway West, services are available at Airport Corporate Park, Bath, the Academic and Workforce Development Center in Elmira and Watkins Glen.
SBDC Success Story
Business can be a real jungle, just ask Brenda Gleason, owner of Jungle Critters, a pet store and grooming parlor located on Market Street in Corning, New York. After renting her building for 13 years, Brenda decided to make building renovations and expand on her inventory. Brenda contacted Susan Buchanan from the SBDC. Susan provided assistance in developing a business plan to secure financing.
“If not for the help of Susan Buchanan and the SBDC team, I would not have been successful getting the finances I needed,” said Brenda.
