General Studies

The General Studies program offers a maximum of electives. By following a rigorous liberal arts curriculum, graduates will have developed capabilities in academic research and writing, the ability to apply scientific method and critical thinking skills to validate their own ideas and inquiries, sufficient math skills to deal with complex problems, and an awareness and appreciation of living in a culturally diverse society.

This degree allows for development of a program to suit a unique career choice not met by any other program or allows for degree completion after several program explorations.

Program Requirements

For the undecided students, one of the other Liberal Arts programs such as Humanities/Social Science is recommended.

Since programs at transfer colleges vary greatly, it is essential that students meet early with their faculty advisor to select appropriate electives. The careful selection of electives will facilitate transfer and the completion of requirements at the transfer school.

The State University if New York (SUNY) requires students who intend to receive a bachelor's degree from a SUNY college to complete at least 30 credit hours in specific general education areas. Students in this program who plan to transfer to a SUNY college can meet 21 credits of the general education requirement.
