March 6 Robert Frost, poet, spoke at the Visiting Scholars’ Program at Houghton House.
June 11 First CCC commencement exercises. 57 graduated. Frederick Parsons, speaker, said, “If mistakes are made, they will be in underestimating the brilliant future of this institution.”
October 6 Arthur A. Houghton, Jr. donated 273 acres on Spencer Hill for a permanent campus. The Corning Glass Works Foundation authorized $2,225,000 for the construction of buildings.
November 4 Faculty-Student Corporation was approved.
December 2 Tuition increased from $250 to $300 effective September 1, 1961.
