Corning Community College Recognized for Community Involvement
Dr. Floyd Amann, President
As we continue to celebrate Corning Community College’s 50th Anniversary celebration, the word “community” is at the very core of everything we do. We proudly serve the tri-county area and look forward to our next 50 years. In recognition of our commitment to our community, the College was recently recognized for several prestigious awards. In February, the College was named as the 2008 John G. Eberenz Enterprise Award recipient due to its active involvement in the community, creation of jobs, expansion of services, and positive impact on the community. The highest and most distinguished honor given by the Corning Area Chamber of Commerce, this award is given to a current or former Chamber member(s) who has taken personal business risks, has a stake in the business area of the community, created traffic, trade, jobs or all three, created dollars, performed community services, and accomplished these things over a major portion of their lifetime. John G. Eberenz served as a member of the CCC Board of Trustees from 1964-1976. The College was chosen by a committee of notable community members and Chamber representatives. Trustee Eric Shults accepted the award on our behalf at the Chamber’s 52nd annual dinner on March 1 at the Corning Museum of Glass.
On February 26, the College received two awards recognizing the success of its 2007 United Way campaign. Our employees were awarded a Silver Employee Award for their stellar support of the campaign for the second year in a row. Reaching at least a 70 percent participation rate and at least a $25,000 campaign were the criteria. In addition, the College received a Star Performer Award for going above and beyond the call of duty with outstanding performance and sincere commitment to the success of the United Way campaign. The community United Way campaign raised $4,404,899 with 76 percent coming from employee campaigns like ours. CCC employees have continued to increase our level of giving and our leadership gifts ($500+) have continued to grow. Much of the credit goes to the planning committee led by Jackie VanBrunt, counselor in the Student Success Center, with special assistance from Patty Cordes ’74, bursar in Student Accounts.
Thank you all for what you do for our students, the College, and the community we serve.
