Floyd F. Amann, Ph.D.
President
Corning Community College
In May 2001, Dr. Amann assumed the position of president at Corning Community College. A native New Yorker, Dr. Amann has spent most of his educational career with three of New York’s community colleges – Jamestown, Finger Lakes and Monroe. He returned to New York after serving 4 years as President of Shelby State Community College in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Amann left the presidency at Shelby State to join the graduate faculty at the University of Memphis where he had the responsibility of developing a community college graduate program.
During his tenure at Shelby State, Dr. Amann provided the leadership to re-organize the administration, introduce more accountable financial management practices, improve fund raising efforts, and correct recurring financial aid problems. He successfully transformed Shelby State into an institution that instilled a sense of pride in the students, staff and community. Shelby State has since successfully merged with another two-year college to become the Southwest Tennessee Community College.
Dr. Amann placed an emphasis on strengthening Corning Community College’s commitment to enriching the lives of all residents of the three-county region and to the success of every learner. Dr. Amann has also made a priority of enhancing the community’s awareness of the need for private support of community colleges by strengthening the Corning Community College Development Foundation’s fundraising efforts.
During his tenure Dr. Amann successfully launched a Major Gifts Campaign currently totaling $7.1 million as of October 2006. In addition, Dr. Amann secured an increase to the county chargeback of $300 per student, the first increase since the regionalization of the College in 1984. CCC completed the Middle States reaccreditation process in 2005 receiving a ten-year unconditional status, a standing rarely achieved by other institutions.
Dr. Amann has an A.A. in Liberal Arts from Niagara County Community College; a B.S. in Biology from Bowling Green University; M.S. in Botany and a Ph.D. in Higher Education from the University of Arizona. He lives in Corning with his wife Jan, and together, they have six children.
