STEM Day 2019

More than 400 high school students are visiting SUNY Corning Community College today for the second annual STEM Day. Coming from around the Southern Tier and Northern Tier of Pennsylvania, the students each attended three workshops that highlighted myriad careers, with many offering the opportunity for hands-on exploration. In addition to SUNY CCC, presenters came from Corning Inc., Hilliard Corporation, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Cornell University, Allete Clean Energy, Lockheed Martin, Binghamton University, Hunt Engineers, Architects, and Surveyors, Charles River Analytics, and Chemung Canal Trust Company.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for regional high school students to learn about STEM careers that are available locally and how to get on an effective educational path,” said Deb Lynch, a program specialist with the Career Development Council, Inc., a non-profit organization that is part of GST BOCES. “This is the second year for STEM Day, but the program is an evolution of the long-running Math and Tech Days.”

The event is sponsored by the College, the Career Development Council, the Corning Foundation, and the Community Foundation.
