Two years ago, Kyle Kiper’s career scope was focused on becoming a nurse. He graduated from Horseheads High School, applied to Corning Community College, and planned to earn a degree from CCC’s Nursing program.
Kyle’s plans drastically changed two weeks into the Fall 2016 semester when he crossed paths with courses that dealt with business administration. Immediately, he was hooked.
“I didn’t excel at math in high school, but to me, the areas of stocks and investments are more like studying numbers rather than calculating them. When I thought of it that way, I really thought I might enjoy it, and be good at it, besides,” Kyle said.
The second-year student’s favorite course so far at CCC was Managerial Accounting (ACCT 1040), which speaks to his hopeful career as a financial planner.
“After CCC I plan to attend and graduate from Coastal Carolina University in South Carolina, and then begin my professional occupation,” the 19-year-old said. “I will certainly look back at CCC and remember it as a great experience and a wonderful start for me.”
Kyle’s capacity to look toward the future gives him the drive to succeed. He spends much of his time in the CCC Arthur A. Houghton, Jr., Library, working toward his future goals. When he’s not focused on studying numbers, Kyle can be found either skiing on the slopes of Swain Resort or riding one of his two paint horses, Cledus and Rita.
