Makerspace Workshops

The Makerspace hosts workshops featuring different projects throughout the year. 

Laser Engraved Granite PlaqueLaser Engraved Granite Pet Memorial

All materials provided. Please provide your own digital photo (higher resolution is better), and any text that you want to engrave on the 12" x 12" polished black granite slab. You can email your photo ahead of time to makerspace@corning-cc.edu if you want to verify that it will work well. The workshop costs $25 per engraved granite memorial and is open to the public (ages 8+ with parent or guardian).

Make your own custom laser engraved puzzle from wood. The workshop costs $25 per person and is open to the public (ages 8+ with parent or guardian). All materials are provided, but participants should bring their own digital photo or design.

Laser Cut Jewelry Workshop

Laser cut and engrave a pendant or earrings using a design of your choice from materials including various colors of wood and acrylic. Participants should bring a design idea. If you don't have an idea in mind, don't worry - we'll have a few to choose from. The workshop costs $25 per person and is open to the public (ages 8+ with parent or guardian).

Laser engraved mirrorLaser Engraved Mirror Workshop

Laser engrave a design or photo of your choice on a 6-inch round mirror mounted in a USB-powered lighted beechwood stand. Participants should bring their own design idea to the workshop (can be a digital photo, text, or a hand-drawn design). The workshop costs $25 per person and is open to the public (ages 8+ with parent or guardian). The 3D printed mirror frame will be pre-printed. Both the mirror and the wood stand can be engraved.

Laser engraved charcuterie boardLaser Engraved Charcuterie Board Workshop

Laser engrave a design or photo of your choice on a 13" beechwood charcuterie board. Participants should bring their own design idea to the workshop (can be a digital photo, text, or a hand-drawn design). The workshop costs $30 per person and is open to the public (ages 8+ with parent or guardian).

Repair Café

Need to repair something? Join the Makerspace at Corning's first repair café!
Saturday, April 25, 12:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Emanuel Lutheran Church, 149 W William St. in Corning, NY

Volunteers will help guests repair a wide range of items, including small electronics, clothing and textiles, toys, small furniture, bikes, and more, while teaching them how repairs are done step-by-step. The event will also include a special children’s activity: the Teddy Bear Hospital, where kids can bring stuffed animals for mending and rejuvenation. The Repair Café is a collaborative effort led by the Southeast Steuben County Library, Makerspace at Corning Community College, Southern Tier Reduces, Steuben County Habitat for Humanity ReStore and the Steuben County Habitat for Humanity Tool Library.

If you have an idea for a different workshop that you would like to see us host, please let us know at makerspace@corning-cc.edu. Most workshops are open to the public, but we can also schedule private custom workshops for your group for a special occasion. If you see a workshop you are interested in, but the time doesn't work for you, please ask about scheduling a workshop for an alternate time (including past workshops listed below).
