Accessibility Services provides testing accommodations to ensure qualified students have equal access to academic evaluations. We administer exams and quizzes requiring accommodations such as extended time, reduced-distraction environments, adaptive equipment, or readers.

Our Facilities & Frequently Used Accommodations

Located in the Chemung Building (CHM 100), our Testing Center is designed to support diverse learning and physical needs. The facility features private testing rooms, individual partitioned desks, computers, and height-adjustable desks.

Commonly utilized testing accommodations include:

  • Distraction-reduced testing environments
  • Extended time on exams and quizzes
  • Text-to-Speech (audio readers) and Speech-to-Text (dictation) assistive software
  • Use of adaptive equipment and technologies

Step 1: Eligibility & Setup

To utilize testing accommodations, students must first complete the intake process with Accessibility Services and obtain an official Letter of Accommodation (LOA).

  • Renewing Each Semester: Accommodations are active on a semester-by-semester basis. To ensure your support is in place right when you need it, please renew your accommodation requests at the start of every term.
  • Connecting with Instructors: We encourage you to email your official LOA to your instructors as early in the semester as possible. Because accommodations begin from the date your instructor receives the letter, sharing it early helps everyone partner together for your success.

Step 2: Scheduling Your Exams

Planning ahead is the best way to guarantee your dedicated space, tech tools, and proctor availability.

  • Plan ahead for your peace of mind: We highly recommend scheduling all known exams at the start of the semester as soon as you receive your syllabi.
  • Booking Window: Please submit your exam requests at least three business days before the exam (excluding the exam day itself).
  • Timing: To maintain a consistent academic experience, exams should typically be scheduled for the same date and time as your class.
  • Managing Schedule Conflicts: If your extended time overlaps with another class or occurs outside Testing Center hours, simply clear an alternate start time with your instructor in advance.
  • Late Requests: If an unexpected test comes up and you miss the 3-day window, please contact us right away. We will make every reasonable effort to accommodate you, though space and proctoring cannot always be guaranteed on short notice.
  • Specify Your Needs: When booking, let us know the specific approved accommodations you would like to use for that test (e.g., test read aloud, extended time).
  • How to Book: Students may schedule exams or quizzes by submitting a request through the Schedule Test in Accessibility Services

Step 3: On Exam Day

  • Arrive Ready: Aim to arrive a few minutes before your start time so you can settle in comfortably.
  • Making the Most of Your Time: Your exam clock begins at your scheduled start time. Arriving on time ensures you receive every minute of your approved extended time.
  • Protecting Your Testing Environment: To protect exam integrity, we may not admit students who arrive more than 30 minutes late for an exam or 15 minutes late for a quiz (or if 50% of the quiz time has already passed).
  • Communicate Delays: If an emergency or unexpected delay happens on your way here, don't panic! Please email us at accessibility@corning-cc.edu as soon as possible so we can help you figure out the next steps.

Step 4: Testing Rules

To maintain a fair, secure, and distraction-free environment for everyone, standard testing center guidelines apply:

  • Secure Your Belongings: All personal items—including phones, smartwatches, laptops, bulky bags, or hats—must be placed in your designated testing locker before entering.
  • Tech-Free Spaces: Devices capable of recording, photographing, internet access, or communication are not allowed in the testing rooms. If you wear prescription smart glasses, please bring a standard, non-smart pair of backup eyewear to use during your exam.
  • Completing Your Exam: To ensure test security, exams are designed to be completed in one sitting unless an alternate format is a pre-approved part of your accommodation.
  • Final Submission: Once you submit your exam materials to a staff member, your testing session is complete.
