Red circular seal for Corning Community College pinning ceremony, featuring a lamp and flame in the center and the text “Pinning Corning Community College Ceremony 1957” around the border.

Nurse Education Graduates - Class of 2026

The Pinning Ceremony

The pin is a tradition in nursing. Every school of nursing has its unique pin. Frequently, the pin embodies the school seal, and some, like SUNY Corning Community College, incorporate the school colors.

The book and lamp of knowledge were to represent the educational foundation on which the “new” associate degree nursing programs were to be based.

The scroll, quill, and ink bottle, which were to represent Florence Nightingale’s Notes on Nursing, should be the basis for the nursing education portion of the curriculum.
