Lauretta Beckhorn Estate
The Nursing Careers Scholarship, endowed by the Lauretta Beckhorn Estate, benefits aspiring nurses who are studying at Corning Community College. Established in 2007, the permanent endowment was created to pay tribute to the loving and quality care that Lauretta received from CCC nursing students. Lauretta, who was a graduate of Alfred University and a retired senior accountant from Ingersoll Rand, spent her final days in local nursing facilities and frequently commented on the tender and appropriate care she received from Corning nurses-in-training.
A recent gift to the endowment from Lauretta’s estate ensures that as the size of CCC’s nursing class grows, so too will the number of scholarships awarded. Currently, up to six first-year nursing students receive the equivalent of tuition and fees from the Nursing Careers Scholarship. The scholarship is renewable for a second year, assuming the recipients meet eligibility criteria. In addition, the fund awards $1,000 scholarships to several students enrolled in Nursing III each year.
