Open House at SUNY CCC a Great Success
SUNY Corning Community College held an in-person Open House on Saturday, November 6, 2021. I was the first in-person open house since 2019, due to the pandemic.
This year’s theme was “Set Your Clocks Back. Set Your Future Ahead,” which coincided with Daylight Saving Time ending the following day. More than 200 registered for the event with 167 attending in person, which greatly exceeded expectations.
“The format this year highlighted activities that participants enjoyed as they were led by faculty and staff on a campus tour. Our guests were engaged by faculty-led demonstrations and activities that showcased our offerings. Information tables manned by faculty, staff, and students underscored the programs, support, and fun SUNY CCC offers students. A financial aid presentation during lunchtime provided helpful information,” said Dr. Barbara Canfield, Provost, SUNY CCC.
Attending came to the Spencer Hill campus of SUNY CCC in Corning, NY, from the Southern Tier, Northern Pennsylvania, New York City and the Bronx, with one, Caroline Courson, who came all the way from Erie, Colorado. Caroline has committed to playing softball for the Red Barons.
Attendees were treated to ceramics demonstrations, chemistry experiments, campus tours, a DJ and much more.
Assistant Director of Admissions Caleb McGuire said, “We really wanted these Open House events to showcase what it feels like to be a SUNY Corning Community College student. We want our prospective students to be able to walk away from the event feeling as if they are already a part of the Red Baron family and understand what a typical day on our campus might feel like; from the hands on learning opportunities, the wonderfully prepared lunch in the dining hall, the extra comfortable suite-style living in Perry Hall and the access to our wonderful faculty and staff."
SUNY CCC will host an Open House next Spring, on April 23, 2022, with a theme to coincide with “National Take a Chance Day,” when people are encouraged to take steps to achieve their goals and dreams, such as continuing or starting their higher education journey.
