CORNING, N.Y. -- On Monday, September 14, SUNY Corning Community College celebrated seven graduates from the 12th cohort of its Manufacturing Technician Program, a program supported by New Energy New York (NENY). The College recognized the accomplishments and skills gained to prepare students for careers in the manufacturing industry.
The 160-hour program provides students with practical, hands-on training in manufacturing math, blueprint reading, precision measurement, basic electricity, machine shop skills, and more. Students also complete a machine shop capstone project and participate in manufacturing facility tours, resume and interview workshops, and interviews with local manufacturers.
For graduate Stefan Long, the program provided a strong foundation for entering the field. “It was a very worthwhile experience. If you are thinking about getting into the industry, it gives you a solid ground to build on,” Long said.
Benjamin Wilson, said the camaraderie among his classmates made the experience especially meaningful. “My favorite part of the Manufacturing Tech program was the camaraderie. The whole class felt like a team striving for the same goal,” Wilson said.
The program is completely free to eligible students through support from the NENY grant. It is designed to help meet workforce demand and support economic growth in the Southern Tier.
