The Pre-Nursing Science Primer Part 1 microcredential align with requirements for the Nursing Associates in Applied Sciences A.A.S. program should students choose to continue their education after obtaining the microcredential.

Microcredential Outline

This curriculum was designed in consultation with transfer requirements and local healthcare employers, and was approved by the Nursing faculty and SUNY CCC governance.

Upon completion of this microcredential, students will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of basic biology and chemistry of health sciences; develop key skills of the basics of health care including correct usage of a variety of medical devices; demonstrate an understanding of the foundations of anatomy and physiology; identify key concepts of microbiology and how it relates to healthcare.

Following the completion of the Pre-Nursing Science Primer 1 microcredential, the Pre-Nursing Science Primer 2 microcredential continues to expand nursing skills.

The microcredential is 7 credits and is comprised of the following courses.

BIOL 1050, Introduction to Human Biology (3 cr.)

Covers body chemistry, the organ systems, human genetics, and human ecology. Laboratory offers but does not require vertebrate dissection. Prerequisites: Eligible to take ENGL 1010. Lab fee.
 

CHEM 1020, Introduction to Organic & Biochemistry (4 cr.)

This course provides a survey of basic facts and principles of organic chemistry and biochemistry. Topics include the structure, properties, and reactivity of some of the major types of organic functional groups. Other topics include carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, enzymes, nucleic acids, and metabolism. Designed for Nursing and other Allied Health majors. Not recommended for Math/Science students. Prerequisites: Eligible to enroll in ENGL 1010. Lab fee
