The Pre-Nursing Science Primer 2 microcredential align with requirements for the Nursing Associates in Applied Sciences A.A.S. program should students choose to continue their education after obtaining the microcredential.
Microcredential
This curriculum was designed in consultation with transfer requirements and local healthcare employers, and was approved by the Nursing faculty and SUNY CCC governance.
Upon completion of this microcredential, students will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of basic biology and chemistry of health sciences; develop key skills of the basics of health care including correct usage of a variety of medical devices; demonstrate an understanding of the foundations of anatomy and physiology; identify key concepts of microbiology and how it relates to healthcare.
The microcredential is 12 credits and is comprised of the following courses.
BIOL 1210, Principles of Anatomy and Physiology I (4 cr.)
BIOL 1220, Principles of Anatomy and Physiology II (4 cr.)
BIOL 2010, Microbiology (4 cr.)
A study of bacteria, fungi, viruses, and protozoans. Emphasizes the anatomical, cultural, physiological, and reproductive characteristics of bacteria and viruses and practical applications of microbiology including aspects of disease. Explores various techniques and procedures used in microbiology labs including, microscopy, staining, growth, and identification of microorganisms. Prerequisite: One year of college biology courses number 1200 or higher OR one semester of college biology courses numbered 1200 or higher and one semester of college chemistry OR BIOL 1210 with a C or better. Lab fee.
