Q & A with MitchStudent stands on a campus walkway in front of the Arthur A. Houghton Jr. Library at Corning Community College.

Meet Mitch Mattison, Student Government Vice President and a second-year Humanities & Social Sciences major.

Q: What is your favorite spot on campus and why?

My favorite spot on campus is the upper floor of the Learning Center. I've spent a lot of time there during my time at CCC, whether it's to ask for help, study with my friends, or even just hang out with my friends when we don't have any work to do.

Q: What has been your favorite class you’ve taken at CCC?

My favorite class that I've taken at CCC was General Biology I with Professor Pindel. I'm a huge science person, and I took the class during my first semester here in Fall 2025. Professor Pindel made the class so much fun because of the way he interacted with us as students. I also had my good friend Reilly in that class, which made the experience even more memorable.

Q: Why is it important to get involved on campus?

It is so important for me to get involved on campus because I believe that no matter how young you are, you have a voice. For me, getting involved has also been really important for my personal growth as I continue to grow, learn, and discover new things about myself and what I’m capable of.

Q: What are some of your hobbies off campus?

Outside of school, I'm very active and love spending time outdoors. Some of my favorite things to do are running, skiing, walking, going to sporting events, fishing, hiking, traveling, and participating in different sports. I also enjoy spending time indoors cooking, working out, listening to music, watching TV, and learning new things.

Q: What is your favorite thing about being a part of Student Government?

My favorite thing about being a part of Student Government is that I've become involved in things that I never thought I would be during my time here. I love that when something is brought to me or another member, we can work together to find a way to make a difference for our college and our community.

Q: Who is your favorite professor at CCC and why?

My favorite professor at CCC is Professor Pindel. He was the professor for my favorite class, but he is also more than just that. Every time I see Professor Pindel outside of class, he always takes the time to greet me in his own way. He has also been very helpful whenever I've needed assistance with my degree or classes, or even a letter of recommendation. He has always been willing to help me, and I really appreciate that.

Q: What would you tell someone who is interested in getting involved on campus, but might not know where to start?

Learn how to step outside of your comfort zone and be uncomfortable. I know that can be easier said than done, but sometimes you just have to take that first step and put yourself out there. Talk to someone, go to an event, join a club, or find an organization that interests you. You never know what opportunities or friendships can come from getting involved. I think some of the best experiences I’ve had at CCC have come from doing things that I was originally nervous or unsure about.
