Q & A with ReillyStudent stands on a campus walkway in front of the Arthur A. Houghton Jr. Library at Corning Community College.

Meet Reilly Wells, Student Government President and a second-year Math and Science major.

Q: What is your favorite spot on campus and why?

My favorite spot on campus has to be the Student Association Executive Board (SAEB) office. We have a refrigerator, microwave, and our own personal desks where we encourage students to come in and visit us.

Q: What has been your favorite class you’ve taken at CCC?

My favorite class I have taken at CCC has to be anything in the math department. The CCC math professors have opened my eyes to how awesome and useful being good at math is.

Q: Why is it important to get involved on campus?

I believe that it is important to get involved on campus because you get what you put into your experiences. The more effort you put into getting yourself involved on campus, the more rewarding and overall better experience you will have in college.

Q: What are some of your hobbies off campus?

Off campus, among many other hobbies, I enjoy playing my guitar, going to the gym, and fixing lawn mowers. I also enjoy playing baseball here at CCC (which is technically on campus, so I guess it does not count).

Q: What is your favorite thing about being a part of Student Government?

My favorite thing about being a part of Student Government is being a part of something bigger than myself. Student Government aims to improve the student experience and I am more than happy to take on a high demand position to do everything in my power to accomplish this. Being able to be a representative of the student body in meetings, committees, and overall campus events to get our voices heard is the most rewarding part of being involved in SAEB.

Q: Who is your favorite professor at CCC and why?

My favorite professor at CCC is Dr. Koble in the science department. Dr. Koble is very relatable and connects with his students easily. He has become my favorite professor because of how real he keeps it, and how easy he makes learning. I also feel like I have a friend in Dr. Koble, as he is a reliable person I could go to if I ever needed anything. He is not just like this to me, but to everyone and that's what makes him so great.

Q: What would you tell someone who is interested in getting involved on campus, but might not know where to start?

The first thing I would tell someone who is interested in getting involved on campus but is unsure where to start, is to come to the Student Association Government Association (SAGA) meetings and learn about all the different clubs on campus. SAGA meetings are open to all students to attend and at these meetings all the clubs on campus report out what they have been doing throughout the semester, and what they plan to do. This would be a great opportunity to listen and learn about the different clubs we offer at CCC, and potentially connect with the clubs’ officers to get involved. The other thing I would tell someone in this position is to come visit the SAEB office during our posted office hours, so we can answer any questions they might have and help get them connected with the right people to get them involved.
