Graduates will have the skills and knowledge necessary to understand the aims of public education in our society, current trends in education, and the general roles and responsibilities of teachers. They will have competency in understanding the concepts, principles, and practices of several areas of the Liberal Arts and Sciences, with special focus on preparing them to take the first of three certification exams. 

This program is designed for students planning to transfer to a four-year institution to pursue a degree in Education. Gain immediate access to the Alfred University bachelor’s degree program. This is a convenient opportunity for SUNY CCC students who are seeking a bachelor’s degree and initial certification as Pre-K to Grade 6 teachers. Qualify for initial certification from New York State, so you can start teaching immediately. 

The program consists of courses in the education major, as well as courses that fulfill general education and concentration requirements. As an enrolled student in the program, you will complete 60-65 credits through Alfred University to earn your bachelor’s degree.

Admissions Requirements for Alfred University’s Bachelor’s Degree Program

Associate degree completed by the end of the semester preceding enrollment in the Alfred University degree completion program. Minimum overall GPA of 2.75. Minimum GPA of 3.0 in EDUC 230 and selected education courses completed at CCC.
