Student Spotlight: Xavier Carl

Headshot of Xavier CarlMeet Xavier Carl, a Chemical Technology major, who is set to graduate in the fall of 2025. After CCC, he plans to transfer to a four-year university, with RIT or Syracuse as potential choices, to continue studying chemistry. While he hasn’t chosen a specific path, he finds spectroscopy particularly exciting.

On campus, Xavier serves as president of Knights of the Periodic Table (the Chemistry Club) and secretary of Phi Theta Kappa. He helped organize a periodic table-themed bake sale and Mole Day, a chemistry celebration on October 23rd. He also played a key role in PTK’s first induction ceremony in decades, preparing and presenting for new members.

One of his proudest accomplishments is his journey back to education. “I took a long period of time shunning or ignoring/disliking the thought of me pursuing education truthfully," said Xavier. "But, starting in 2020 I slowly built together the self that I am today, who is passionate about education, and passionate about helping other people find that joy as well.”

His favorite place on campus is the Learning Center, where students can get support and stay motivated. “It's designed in a way that you are inclined to get work done, everyone around you is on task working on their own homework or projects, it gives me a welcoming vibe overall," Xavier added.

His advice to fellow students: “Don't be afraid to ask for help, whether that be to your peers or professors. A lot of people view this as a weakness, or that it's embarrassing, but once you start welcoming that side of yourself to be helped, it is amazing how much better both your grades and peace of mind become! ”
