Chemical Dependency Counseling, A.A.S. Scholarship

The New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) is offering scholarships to eligible New York State residents to take courses toward the Chemical Dependency Counseling, A.A.S. degree along with the integrated Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) program, with many of the courses being available online. This scholarship funding is made available through OASAS’ Addiction Professionals Scholarship Program which is funded by the New York State Opioid Settlement Fund. Such scholarships will assist individuals to either begin or advance their careers in the addictions services profession, and they will assist providers certified by OASAS, the Office of Mental Health, or the Department of Health with employee recruitment, retention, and professional development.
Bilingual/multilingual individuals are highly encouraged to apply. Applications for the Spring 2025 semester are being accepted on a rolling basis until all scholarships are awarded.
ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS:
- New York State residents who are at least 18 years of age with a minimum of a high
school diploma or a high school equivalency (HSE) from an accredited institution and
who are employees of one of the following (OASAS, OMH or DOH programs below will be
prioritized to receive scholarships):
- OASAS-certified, funded, or otherwise authorized programs;
- OMH- and/or DOH-certified Integrated Outpatient Services (IOS-SUD); or
- DOH Drug User Health and/or Harm Reduction programs.
- After priority populations, the following will also be eligible:
- Individuals working within the addictions field (prevention, treatment, recovery, and/or harm reduction) in an eligible non-OASAS setting such as OMH and DOH programs not listed above and
- Individuals or students interested in working in eligible OASAS, OMH or DOH settings.

The Chemical Dependency Counseling A.A.S. program is designed to prepare students to enter the field of alcoholism and substance abuse treatment. Required courses for the program meet NYS Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) requirements for 350 hours of training for NYS OASAS Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC).
