SUNY Corning Community College has partnered with the Society for Human Resource Management to help participants in this class prepare for success on the SHRM exams. This in-person course offers a structured, comprehensive and effective way to prepare for the exam by combining expert instruction with unrestricted access to the 2026 SHRM Certified Prep System.

Our Program
Our in-person SHRM Certification Exam Preparation course draws on the expertise of
Wayne Smith, a SHRM Senior Certified Professional training facilitator, an accomplished
Strategic Leadership Partner for more than 30 years. Wayne has led as a manager, director,
business partner, instructor, and a consultant in a variety of non-profit and for-profit
industries. He is able to offer a comprehensive and effective course of study to prepare for success
on your SHRM exam.
In our 36-hour, in-person course you will:
- Receive guidance from a SHRM-certified expert.
- Immerse yourself in a structured and supportive learning environment.
- Supplement your class-time learning with access to the complete 2025 SHRM Learning System.
- Personalize your learning experience with the content and tools you need to fill your unique knowledge gaps;
- Topics are presented in bite-sized pieces and related experiences of our training facilitator will supplement your knowledge and understanding of the topics.
With the 2026 SHRM Certified Prep System to compliment your classes so you can study anytime and anywhere that fits into your schedule.

SHRM® Essentials of HR Seminar
Whether you are a new HR professional or perform HR responsibilities in a non-HR role, this is the ideal program for you! In this practical, interactive course, you will acquire transferable skills and knowledge to better equip you to lead with purpose, maximize talent, champion culture, optimize intelligence, accelerate performance and understand and comply with U.S. employment laws. You will learn from seasoned HR professional, who will help you gain essential knowledge about HR roles and tasks and provide you with critical insights.
This course includes both an instructor-led 2 day seminar and an accompanying self-paced eLearning program (which you will have access to for a year). You will gain access to the eLearning program on the first day of the in-person seminar.

Cancellations with less than 3 days notice or failure to attend (No Shows) the first day of class will not qualify for a refund or reduction of charges.
Students may cancel 3 days or more prior to the day of class and receive a full refund. We solidify dates with instructors 3 days prior to the start of the class (or reschedule/cancel) and it is dependent upon enrollment. Cancellations with less than 3 days notice can not be refunded). About Your Instructor
Wayne Smith

Wayne has been a strategic leadership partner for more than 30 years in American, Dutch, German, and Japanese organizations. He has a B.S. in Informatics from Indiana University, an M.B.A. from Franklin Pierce University, and a SHRM Senior Certified Professional credential. His good fortune has allowed him to learn and lead as a manager, director, business partner, instructor, and consultant in a variety of non-profit and for-profit industries.
Wayne joined the Alliance for Manufacturing and Technology in 2021 and provides strategic planning, risk management and human resource services to small to mid-sized manufacturers in the Southern Tier of New York. Recent projects include succession planning, training and development programs for underserved populations, and leadership development. He also shares his passion for worker safety by serving as an OSHA Authorized General Industry Trainer.
