Digital Design
The interdisciplinary Digital Design AS program was created to engage students’ creativity and build design thinking, innovative problem-solving, and production skills that have application in varied career fields such as Studio Art, Industrial Design, and Advanced Manufacturing. This new program represents a blend of art and design concepts with the most recent innovations in Computer-Aided Design (C
AD), Rapid Prototyping, Computer Numerical Control (CNC) and traditional practices. With increased demand for innovation in manufacturing in our region and the rest of the country, the Digital Design program will help prepare students for a fulfilling career designing and building the future.
This program features required classes in drawing, design, ceramics, art history, CAD, CNC, manufacturing, and Liberal Arts general education. Program electives allow students to choose from a variety of classes in art, machining, and other technical coursework.
- By the end of the program, students will:
• Demonstrate fundamental drawing concepts in a variety of traditional and contemporary art media.
• Demonstrate proficiency in manipulating the major elements and materials of 2D and 3D design.
• Demonstrate proficiency in using AutoCAD and SolidWorks to create working drawings to expected industry standards.
• Produce 2D drawings and 3D models for import into computer-assisted manufacturing (CAM) software for computer numerical control (CNC) machining program generation.
• Demonstrate a fundamental knowledge in the liberal arts and sciences, to include mathematics, natural sciences, social sciences, American history, world civilizations, humanities, the arts, languages, and basic communication.
