Transfer Staff Profile: Alexus Hurlburt
From Hesitation to Dedication: Alexus Hurlburt's CCC Journey
Initial Reservations & The Turning Point
Honestly, SUNY CCC was my last choice because I am from the Corning area and in high
school many students considered it the 13th grade. However, when it came down to deciding
on what school I was going to attend, I ended up choosing SUNY CCC for the cost, program
(Nursing at the time) and it was close to home. My mother is also an alumna so she
was very excited for me to be attending SUNY CCC.
Medical Ambitions to Administrative Aspirations
Straight out of high school my career goals were to become a labor and delivery nurse.
I did New Visions Medical in BOCES and loved that unit! However, once I started working
as a Student Ambassador in Admissions (September 2013), I quickly knew that I wanted
to change my major to Business Administration.
Transitioning to New Academic Horizons
I continued to work in the Admissions Office at SUNY CCC while completing my Bachelors
Degree in Organizational Management at Keuka College. The transfer process was easy and all of my credits transferred! I do feel like SUNY CCC prepared me to be successful as I had a better understanding
of College and how different it was from High School. The instructors were great and
looking back, I wouldn't change my decision to attend SUNY CCC first!
The Call of CCC: A Return to Roots
I never really left. Well, I did for a short time, but not too long. I started my
career in higher education at SUNY CCC and when the position opened up, it felt right
to come back and help other students figure out their career path.
Parting Wisdom: The CCC Advantage
SUNY CCC is a great place to start your College education. Whether you are undecided
or you know exactly what career path is right for you, SUNY CCC has a place for you!
The best advice I can give to students is to get involved! If you get involved with
activities on campus, clubs, organizations, or a student job, you can maximize the
experience you have while at SUNY CCC. It was the best decision I made!
