Experiences to Build Up Your Resume

According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), developing career readiness in college is key to a successful entrance into the workforce. NACE has identified the following eight core competencies that employers have noted as being key skills they are looking for in college graduates:

  • Career & Self-Development
  • Communication
  • Critical Thinking
  • Equity & Inclusion
  • Leadership
  • Professionalism
  • Teamwork
  • Technology

Check out the following ways CCC students can build these skills on campus!

Opportunities On Campus

Here are some ways students can build upon the NACE core competencies while also adding experiences to their resume outside of the classroom:

  • Join a club on campus and/or take on a leadership position
  • Consider joining Student Government
  • Apply for the Red Baron Leadership Academy
  • Take on a part-time on-campus job - example jobs include Admissions Ambassador, Tutor, Assistant, and more!
  • Apply to be a Resident Assistant (RA)
  • Engage in extracurricular research projects with faculty
  • Try out and become a Red Baron on one of our many athletic teams
  • Volunteer at events on- and off-campus

Internships

SUNY Institutional Research Information System defines an internship as "an applied learning experience for which a student may earn academic credit in an agreed-upon, short-term, supervised workplace activity, which may be related to a student’s major field or area of interest." Internships are an impactful way of receiving hands-on experience outside the classroom in real-world employment settings.

Internships are available at the two-year degree level! CCC students are encouraged to find and participate in a paid or unpaid internship experience if interested and available.

Please contact careers@corning-cc.edu for assistance finding and applying to internship opportunities.
