Participants get an overview of how their whole organization functions and makes basic
supply chain decisions in a simulated environment. Participants will be able to generate
improvement activities for a fictitious company and see how their decisions affect
the supply chain performance and customer satisfaction.
Student Learning Outcomes:
Participants will learn how to relate their daily actions and decisions to the company’s
demand management, supply management and production planning.
Students will:
• Become better decision makers in their job role in the supply chain.
• Learn how to anticipate the consequences of their decisions in the supply chain.

• Gain insight on how to balance inventory, customer satisfaction and profit.

c. Revealing root causes by reducing buffers
II. Demand
a. Fluctuating forecasts and the bullwhip effect
b. Customers making last minute changes to delivery dates
c. Sudden demand and rush orders
III. Supply
a. Forecasts to suppliers
b. Missing parts
c. Quality problems of components
IV. Production
a. Bottlenecks in production
b. Changes of production plans
c. Rushing delayed orders through production
d. Make-to-order vs. Make-to-stock
V. Lead Time
a. Customers complaining about long lead times
b. Long queue times in production
c. Long set-up times
