Celebrating our Graduates
Spring on Spencer Hill usually means commencement and friends and families coming out to celebrate their graduate. However in light of the health concerns and the need for social distancing this year we are going virtual.
Commencement is also a time to recognize the graduates that have excelled in their
field of study and are receiving a Spring Award in recognition of their hard work.
Throughout the month of April 24 graduates and 7 alumni were notified and had their
own virtual acceptance ceremonies.
Hear what a few of our Spring Award recipients have to share:
"Accepting each of these awards means a great deal to me. My father graduated from SUNY CCC in 2011 with a Chemical Technology degree and received the Award for the Outstanding Student in Chemical Technology. Sharing this accomplishment with my father is an extension of his support and wisdom through the years that enabled my success. Receiving the award for the Outstanding Student in Chemistry is an exciting surprise as I understand the award is sponsored by the American Chemical Society. I became a member of the ACS last year, and am currently involved in creating a student chapter at Corning Community College. Lastly, I want to acknowledge the outstanding staff at Corning Community College for being supportive during these unprecedented times. I could not ask for better professors. Thank you." - Daniel J. Brown ‘20, Outstanding Student in Chemical Technology and Corning Section of the American Chemical Society Award for the Outstanding Chemistry Student at CCC
"This award means a great deal to me. I have worked hard for everything in my life and it feels good to have something great come my way. I plan on transferring to Mansfield University to pursue my dream of becoming a music teacher." - Bronwyn Stermer ‘20, Carol McKenzie Music Award
"This award is very humbling to me. I love SUNY CCC and Phi Theta Kappa has allowed me to have experiences that I never would have had if I didn't join. I have been able to work closely with students in the chapter to do wonderful things for the campus and the outside community. It is truly an honor to know that I am amongst some of the top students in New York State. I never expected to have such wonderful experiences while staying at home, but SUNY CCC has allowed me so much and I am so grateful for the school and this award. I will be transferring to the University of Pittsburgh to major in pre-medicine." - Brooke Smith ‘20, PTK All-NY Academic Team Award
"Receiving these awards help to show my commitment to my studies and prove that all
the time that I have put in is being rewarded. I am very grateful for my time at SUNY
CCC, I am very glad I chose to come here two years ago, and am very honored to receive
this award. I plan on studying Chemical Engineering at SUNY University at Buffalo."
- Patrick Milliken ‘20, Engineering Science Award
"Receiving this award is an honor. I am very thankful for the excellent education and knowledge that I have gained at CCC. I can say that I have had great teachers during all four of my semesters. I was lucky enough to have a great professor though, Jonathan Balke. The expertise and enthusiasm that Jon has for the field of electronics is contagious. I will be pursuing my B.S. in Electrical Engineering Technology at Alfred State College this fall." - Thomas Nelson IV ‘20, Electrical Technology Award
"This award is a huge, unexpected honor. This program has been rigorous and taken dedication and sacrifice that fellow students can also attest to. Being selected for this award will hold me accountable in my nursing career to keep striving for excellence while continually furthering my education and providing quality and compassionate clinical care. I have accepted a Registered Nurse position at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, NY as part of the Critical Care Float team to start in August of 2020. I will continue working as a Flight Paramedic with LifeNet of NY/Guthrie Air, working towards a dual certification and a ground Paramedic with AMR in Corning, NY." - Kristina E. Foglia ‘20, Academic Excellence Award in Nursing; 2019-2020 CCC Nursing Society Scholarship
"To receive an award that is not only funded by faculty but one that requires a faculty recommendation is a very humbling and honorable academic award. To know that your professors really care enough to notice you and realize your qualities and potential means a lot to me as a student. Starting this fall I will be starting a bachelor’s of Psychology at Alfred University through the Alfred University Center on the SUNY CCC campus. Simultaneously, I will be getting a second associates degree in Criminal Justice to act as a minor. Following school, I plan on a career in probation or parole." - Emilee Stephani ‘20, Social Sciences Excellence Award
"It means so much to me that I was awarded both the highest achievement for a math and science student and the highest achievement for a student in the SUNY college system. I am very lucky to have been given the opportunities that have led to my success and my receiving these special awards. I plan to transfer into a Biology program, and from there attend PA school to become a Surgical Physician Assistant." - Erin Shaut ‘20, Thomas A. McGrath Award for Excellence in Science; SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence
