
SUNY CCC’s Alex Hunt and Jethro Savain Receive SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence
CORNING, N.Y. -- SUNY Corning Community College students Alex Hunt (Corning, NY) and Jethro Savain (Elmira, NY) earned the prestigious SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence (CASE) from the State University of New York.
SUNY Chancellor John B. King, Jr. awarded 193 students from 63 campuses SUNY’s highest honor for academic excellence and leadership. The 2025 CASE Awards recognizes students for outstanding achievements throughout their SUNY experience in areas including academics, leadership, campus involvement, community service, and the arts.
“SUNY represents academic excellence, and our students have worked tirelessly to not only excel in their academic studies, but also stepped up as community leaders,” said SUNY Chancellor King. “Congratulations to this year’s CASE awardees who’ve distinguished themselves amongst their peers through their work ethic, determination, and commitment to their fields of study.”

Alex Hunt - Corning, NY
Mathematics and Science
Alex Hunt is a driven and enthusiastic student who is excelling in her Chemistry courses. She is also involved on campus and taking advantage of opportunities to develop valuable skills, build relationships and create lasting memories. Alex has a clear plan to transfer to a four-year university to earn a degree in Chemistry and Forensic Science, which will provide her with a unique set of skills and knowledge that can be applied to various career paths, such as forensic chemist, crime lab analyst, research scientist, toxicologist and environmental chemist.
Jethro Savain – Elmira, NY
Automotive Technology
Jethro Savain’s remarkable leadership, unwavering commitment to community service and fervent dedication to promoting diversity distinguish him as an exemplary candidate for the Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence. His influence within the college community transcends his official ambassadorial role. He has inspired and motivated countless students through his actions and initiatives. Jethro truly embodies the core values of campus involvement, civic engagement, diversity and leadership. His passion for helping others, paired with his own personal journey, uniquely positions him to create a lasting and meaningful impact on our college community.
