SUNY CCC Music Theory Students Compose Original Soundtrack to Guided Meditation
The SUNY Corning Community College Digital Dome Theater will feature a guided meditation titled "Meditations Among the Stars" with an original soundtrack composed by students from SUNY CCC’s Music Theory class. The event premieres on Friday, December 9, at 4:00 pm at CCC's Digital Dome Theater and is free to the public. The 20-minute guided meditation and soundtrack will be available for use worldwide.
“Meditation Among the Stars” is a collaborative effort between Jennifer Sellers, Director of Innovative Learning Sites, and Will Wickham, Music Professor at CCC. Under Wickham's guidance, students composed a soundtrack tailored explicitly to the guided meditation vocals and visuals by Sellers.
Julian Slater, a student in Music Theory, describes one of the challenges was "finding the right balance of sounds that would relax the mind but not put the audience to sleep."
With a background in teaching guided meditation in health and wellness, Sellers acknowledged how silent meditation could appear intimidating. What is uniquely different about "Meditations Among the Stars" is the visual and musical component that makes it accessible to everyone.
