Budgeting and Building Wealth on a Limited Budget
This three-session training is designed to equip you with essential skills and knowledge to manage your finances effectively, even on a limited budget. You will be able to have real personal finance conversations with a focus on monthly budgeting. The instructor - Marcus Brooks will have a conversation about our individual relationships with money and personal finance. From these real conversations, habits that need to be modified to get the desired results will be discussed.
Session 1: Personal Finance & your relationship with money.
We will have a high-level conversation about our individual relationships with money and the feelings that come up when discussing personal finance. We will also touch on credit reports, budgeting & savings & investing.
Session 2: Starting an emergency fund, paying down credit card and other consumer debt. Student loan and mortgage debt vs. all other debt.
Our second session will focus on the importance of establishing an emergency fund. We will also focus on the importance of paying down credit card debt and other consumer debt. We will also have a conversation on the difference between student loan and mortgage debt vs. all other debt. We will also revert back to looking at personal budgets and things we can do to capture more of the money we generate.
Session 3: Diving deeper into budgeting & changing habits.
Our third session will be focusing on bringing it all together. We will focus on reiterating the lessons learned and have individuals curate goals and a plan for the next 3 – 6 months. The plan will focus on i. tracking revenue and expenses, ii. decreasing debt, and iii. increasing savings and/or investments.

Students may cancel 3 days or more prior to the day of class and receive a full refund. About the Instructor
Marcus Brooks

Marcus Brooks, MBA, hails from Harlem, New York. He combines his knowledge of leadership training, organizational development, strategy, and finance with a deep passion for human development through the great outdoors and experiential learning. Marcus is experienced In public relations and brings expertise in advanced negotiations, crisis management strategy and inclusion, diversity, and equity. Marcus works with organizations to analyze their opportunities to make changes toward addressing implicit bias and structural inequity. He works with leaders to curate a structural change plan that is the right fit for their organization.
He earned his MBA from Columbia University in New York. His work includes managing a financial portfolio of $110 Million in assets; Ivy League instructor and lecturer on leadership; providing executive leadership, team-building, and communication coaching; emotional intelligence trainer and coach; and serving as a management consultant to women entrepreneurs.
Marcus is an accomplished international outdoor adventure guide, a professional rock and ice climber and a certified Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician. He has lead expeditions in the Canadian Rockies (9,000+ ft.), Peruvian Andes (15,000+ ft.), and Kilimanjaro (19,341 ft.). Marcus is dedicated to community involvement, and works with the Coalition on Sexual Violence Prevention and Men of Color Colleague Network Group (MoCCNG). He currently lives in New York with his partner of 16 years and their two children.
