Why Planned Giving?

pg

Making a significant gift to support SUNY Corning Community College is possible for anyone —at any age —and with any income. Often donors don’t consider a planned gift until late in life. But, anyone —at any age —can make a planned gift and create their legacy.

Planned giving — or sometimes known as — legacy giving — refers to a major gift made during an individual’s life, or after their passing, as part of the donor’s overall financial or estate planning. These gifts can include: Gifts of equity, life insurance, real estate, personal property, or cash.

Gifts can provide a donor with lifelong income or can be used to provide for charities and heirs in a way that maximizes the impact on the donor’s estate.

So why should you consider a planned gift now?

1. It’s easy.
Making a gift is as easy as writing a few sentences into your will. By adding “I give $10,000 to the Corning Community College Development Foundation,” you can make an impact on the future with the stroke of a pen today.

2. You don’t have to give anything now.
Your assets are extremely valuable during your lifetime. With a legacy gift, you can support a cause you’re passionate about without the fear of gifting assets you may need in your lifetime.

3. Each gift is important — no matter the size.
Many people think that if they were to make a gift in their will for a charity, it wouldn’t be significant enough. The truth is: Every gift matters, and every gift, no matter the size, serves our students and ultimately our community.

4. You can decide how your money is used.
By designating a gift for a specific purpose or program, you will be able to support the programs and services that impact our students directly. It’s as easy as including the program or purpose in your will.

I give $10,000 to the Nursing Program at SUNY Corning Community College through Corning Community College Development Foundation.”

5. It's revocable.
Wills and trusts are not written in stone and can be changed at any time. In life, our priorities change, our family changes, and sometimes we need to make adjustments to our wills to reflect those. That’s okay!

Ultimately, making a planned gift is easier than you think and any gift, no matter the size, truly makes an impact. Talk with your estate or financial planner today about what is best for you.
