Teachers Legacy

The late Charlene (Domoracki) Prior ’74, who passed away in July, had a passion for educating the next generation of nurses. As an alumna of SUNY Corning Community College’s Nursing program herself, she was excited to return as an instructor in the fall of 1989. Over her 15 years as an Associate Professor of Nurse Education at SUNY CCC she touched many students’ lives.

“Charlene would not lower her standards for anyone. She really didn't care what the students put on her SRTI forms because she wasn't there to be their friend, but a great instructor instead,” says Jane Larson longtime Colleague in the SUNY CCC Nursing Program. “Anyone who had Charlene for lab really learned from the best and were always thankful for having had her as an instructor, despite her rigor.”

Thanks to the bequest that Charlene left the Nursing program, there will now be a student computer and printer station at the College’s Health Education Center in downtown Corning. This is exciting news for the students of the Nursing and Human Services programs, as they currently have to visit the main campus for those services. It also ensures that Charlene’s dedication to the SUNY CCC nursing students will live on.
